11 Rebels (Japanese title: 十一人の賊軍) is a 2024 Japanese samurai action-drama directed by Kazuya Shiraishi. The film had its world premiere as the opening feature at the 37th Tokyo International Film Festival on October 28, 2024, and was released theatrically in Japan on November 1, 2024 .

Set during the Boshin War in 1868, 11 Rebels follows a group of ten death-row convicts offered freedom in exchange for defending a dilapidated fortress against the advancing Imperial Army. As they brace for battle, the men discover they’ve been manipulated by those who recruited them, forcing them to choose between submission and rebellion .
The screenplay was originally penned by Kazuo Kasahara in 1964 but was shelved due to dissatisfaction with its ending by Toei Kyoto Studio’s head, Shigeru Okada. Decades later, director Kazuya Shiraishi revived the project, bringing the long-lost script to life .
