Maggie Gyllenhaal’s upcoming film, The Bride!, is a reimagining of the classic Bride of Frankenstein story, set to release on March 6, 2026. Originally scheduled for October 3, 2025, the release was postponed to accommodate Warner Bros.’ evolving slate of auteur-driven projects.
Set in 1930s Chicago, the film follows Frankenstein’s monster as he seeks the help of Dr. Euphronius to create a companion. They resurrect a murdered woman, giving life to the Bride. However, she exceeds their expectations, igniting a passionate romance, attracting police attention, and sparking a radical social movement.

Initially developed with Netflix, the project transitioned to Warner Bros. Pictures after creative differences, particularly regarding filming locations. Gyllenhaal preferred shooting in New York City, while Netflix advocated for New Jersey due to budget considerations. Warner Bros. embraced Gyllenhaal’s vision, supporting the New York setting.

Principal photography began in March 2024 in New York City. The film is described as a “wild, romantic, and energetic punk monster movie,” blending gothic horror with contemporary themes.
