Episode VIII – The Last Jedi — Story Summary

After the destruction of the Republic, the Resistance, led by General Leia Organa, is on the run from the powerful First Order. Rey, a young woman strong with the Force, travels to the remote planet Ahch-To to find the legendary Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. She hopes to bring him back to help save the galaxy. However, Luke, disillusioned by his past failures—especially with his former student Ben Solo (now Kylo Ren)—refuses to return and believes the Jedi should end.

While Rey trains and tries to convince Luke, the Resistance faces relentless attacks. Their fuel is running low, and their ships are being tracked through hyperspace. Finn, along with a new ally named Rose, embarks on a secret mission to find a master codebreaker who can disable the First Order’s tracking system. Their journey takes them to the wealthy city of Canto Bight, where they witness the dark side of war profiteering and social inequality.

Meanwhile, Rey and Kylo Ren begin to communicate through the Force. Though they are enemies, they feel a strange connection. Rey believes she can turn Kylo back to the light, while Kylo hopes to bring her to the dark side. Rey leaves Luke to confront Kylo, hoping to save him.

She is captured and brought before Supreme Leader Snoke. Snoke reveals he was the one who connected Rey and Kylo through the Force, manipulating them both. But in a shocking moment, Kylo kills Snoke and offers Rey a chance to join him in ruling the galaxy. Rey refuses, and a fierce lightsaber battle follows.

Back on the planet Crait, the remaining Resistance members make a final stand against the First Order. When all hope seems lost, Luke Skywalker appears on the battlefield to confront Kylo Ren. But it is revealed that Luke is not really there—he is projecting his image across the galaxy using the Force. His sacrifice gives the Resistance time to escape. Exhausted by the effort, Luke passes away peacefully, becoming one with the Force.

In the end, Rey saves the ancient Jedi texts, and the spark of hope lives on. The Resistance may be small, but the fight for freedom continues.
