​The Amateur is a 2025 American vigilante spy action film directed by James Hawes and written by Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli. It is based on the 1981 novel of the same name by Robert Littell, which was previously adapted into a Canadian film. The film stars Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, Michael Stuhlbarg, Holt McCallany, Julianne Nicholson, and Laurence Fishburne.​

Rami Malek portrays Charles “Charlie” Heller, a brilliant but introverted CIA cryptographer. His life is shattered when his wife, Sarah (Rachel Brosnahan), is killed in a terrorist attack in London. When the CIA refuses to act due to internal politics, Heller blackmails his superiors into training him, embarking on a personal mission across Europe to hunt down those responsible. Laurence Fishburne plays Robert “Hendo” Henderson, Heller’s mentor who guides him through the transformation from analyst to operative.​
